Deep tissue massage is different in its intent. We work on a specific issue you have and focus strongly on the involved areas. Where relaxation massage coaxes your body to relax deep tissue massage forces the muscles to release. It can be intense, although I find it works best if you can breathe into the area, relax and it always feels productive to you. Understand that, although your massage therapist can feel many things about your body as they work, they can not feel your pain! Communication from the client is important, and always welcome!
Massage for relaxation is a lot more powerful than you might expect. There is something intrinsic for us humans to relax the body and mind together. We don't often experience that in our day to day lives and it is deeply healing on many levels. This is typically a full body massage, but we can still do deep work -- every session is always customized for you, on that day.
Reiki is a form of energy work. The energy, often described as Universal Life Energy, is channeled through the practitioner to the client. In my work that means hands on, but there is no physical manipulation going on. This is extremely relaxing, and has seems to have benefits far beyond just the relaxation during the session. In some ways I feel this has more potential for whole being healing than massage. If you are exploring your self and your way in this world Reiki may be of great assistance to you.
